the Expedition Thoet Thai, Chaing Rai
the Expedition Thoet Thai, Chaing Rai
Thoet Thai is hidden away in the Mae Fah Luang district, one of the Northern most districts in Thailand. The town is located approximately 68km North of Chiang Rai and about 10 miles south – as the bird fly's – from the Burmese boarder. The school in Thoet Thai has 500 students from hill tribes all over the region.
Most of our time on this expedition with spent in Thoet Thai living with the Thai people and teaching the hill tribes. However, we will also make some excursions to see some of Northern Thailand.
Less traveled than the islands of the Southern Thailand, the North has some beautiful mystery to it. From the markets on the boarder to the temples in Chiang Rai we will have some awesome adventures.
In 1262 Chiang Rai was founded by King Mangrai and became the kingdom of the Mangrai dynasty. Eventually the North was conquered by Burma and held by that country for a long time. It was not until the early 1900s that Chiang Rai became a province of Thailand.
The beautiful city that is 860km (530mi) North of Bangkok has many beautiful attractions. The "White Temple", the final resting place of the King's mother, street markets, night bazaars, and waterfalls. Chiang Rai's is a smaller city – its population is minimal, only boasting about 180,000 people. However, 13% of the population is hill tribe - creating one of the most culturally diverse cities in Thailand.
the Cost Breakdown
the Cost Breakdown
Program costs are listed below. We understand that not everyone has the ability to pay for a program right away. This is why we are a nonprofit. We believe that you should have this opportunity even if you can't afford it. We do this by fundraising together, offering scholarships, and payment plans. The Club is run by dedicated volunteers and keep our overhead low. It is not about "us" or making money. Every expedition is about YOU! Don't let the price scare you away from something you want to do.
